Adobe Shortcuts That Save Time

Adobe Shortcuts That Save Time

If you spend a lot of time working in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, learning a few keyboard shortcuts can make a surprisingly big difference. You don't have to memorize every shortcut available. Just knowing the ones you use most often can help you work faster and spend less time searching through menus.

Whether you're a designer working on client projects or a business owner creating your own marketing materials, these shortcuts are worth adding to your workflow.

The Basics You'll Use Constantly

Some shortcuts are useful in almost every Adobe project. Command + C and Command + V copy and paste, while Command + Z undoes your last action. Command + S saves your work, which is especially important when you're working on a large project.

In Illustrator, Command + G groups selected objects, while Shift + Command + G ungroups them. Command + A selects everything, and Command + Shift + A deselects everything.

These may seem basic, but using keyboard shortcuts instead of constantly clicking through menus can save a lot of time over the course of a project.

Illustrator Shortcuts Designers Should Know

Illustrator has plenty of shortcuts that make everyday design work easier. Press V to switch to the Selection Tool and A for the Direct Selection Tool. P activates the Pen Tool, while T activates the Type Tool.

Need to zoom in or out? Command + + and Command + - make it easy to adjust your view. You can also press Command + 0 to fit the entire artboard in your window.

For moving objects precisely, the arrow keys are your friend. Holding Shift while using the arrow keys moves an object in larger increments, making it easier to reposition elements quickly.

Photoshop Shortcuts That Speed Up Editing

Photoshop has its own set of time-saving shortcuts. B selects the Brush Tool, E selects the Eraser, and M selects the Marquee Tool. V brings up the Move Tool, which you'll probably use frequently when working with multiple layers.

Need a new layer? Shift + Command + N creates one without having to open the Layers menu. Command + J duplicates a selected layer, which is especially useful when experimenting with edits without changing the original.

You can also use [ and ] to quickly change your brush size while working.

Make Shortcuts Part of Your Workflow

You don't need to memorize every Adobe shortcut. Start with the tools you use every day and gradually add more as you become comfortable.

The goal isn't to make design feel complicated—it's to remove unnecessary steps. Once a shortcut becomes second nature, you'll wonder how you ever worked without it.

Final Thoughts

Small improvements to your workflow can add up to a lot of saved time. Whether you're designing a logo, editing photos, or creating marketing materials, Adobe shortcuts can help you work more efficiently and keep your focus on the creative work instead of the software.
